8. Let’s Answer!
HOTS: INFER
Ask the students to read the question and try to guess an answer. Don’t tell them what the
answer is, but have them write their ideas on a small piece of paper, which you collect. They
should write their names on the paper. When they discover the answer, you should hand
back the papers and they should check to see if they guessed correctly (Dexter answers)
9. Let’s Talk!
HOTS: COMPARE AND CONTRAST
Ask the students the first question and have a few
of them express an opinion.
Then have them work in pairs answering and
discussing the two questions. After a few minutes,
have each pair, or a few pairs, present their ideas.
SI: Students engage in short
conversations/discussions by asking and
answering simple questions about familiar
topics and everyday situations.
Encourage others to share their views as to whether they
agree or not with what others say.
SI: Students express opinions.
WKBK: Have the students turn to workbook page 29 and do exercises 7-9.

10. Language Focus!
The Verb ‘to be’ – Questions and Answers
This grammar topic is the use of the verb ‘to be’ in the
Present Simple form to ask yes/no questions and to state
negative and positive responses. The students have already
been taught the affirmative sentence. Based on that
knowledge, review the structure and show how the question
is formed.
AL: Students know how
word order, sound and
writing systems in English
are organized and how these
elements compare with their
home language.
Explain that to form a question in English with ‘to be’ one must move the verb to the first
position and ‘push’ everything else right. So, you get a question such as Are you in the
castle?
