LFO Teacher's Guide - Book - Page 219
Remind them of the short form that they’ve learned, such as ‘he is = he’s’, etc. and explain
that we can shorten the subject and ‘will’ by dropping the ‘wi’ and adding an apostrophe.
This time instead of two letters, we get: I’ll, he’ll, she’ll, it’ll, we’ll, they’ll, you’ll.
Have the students make sentences using the substitution table at the bottom of the
explanation chart.
16. Let’s Practice!
Have the students write sentences in their notebooks in the Future Simple about what they
will do after school, using the words in the word bank.
17. Language Focus!
Future Simple: Will – Negative Form
Have the students look at the chart with the negative form of the Future Simple. Explain
that in the Future Simple we only add ‘not’ after the auxiliary ‘will’. E.g. I will not leave the
party early.
Explain that we can shorten ‘will not’ but unlike all the other short forms they’ve learned,
this short form takes on a new form altogether – ‘will not’ becomes ‘won’t’.
18. Let’s Practice!
Have the students write negative sentences using ‘will not’ or ‘won’t’ in their notebooks.
Answers:
1. I will not / won’t hide in a secret room.
2. She will not / won’t lose her bag.
3. You will not / won’t fly a kite.
4. He will not / won’t make a movie.
5. It will not / won’t swim in the lake.
6. They will not / won’t win a prize.
7. We will not / won’t see a monster.
