Present Simple – Questions and Answers
Have the students look at the picture and the speech bubbles
above the chart. Ask them to read and tell you what they see.

Remind the students that when we wanted to make a negative
sentence, we used a helping verb. Now, when we want to make
interrogative sentences, i.e. questions, we also use the helping
verb in the Present Simple. We use the same helping verb but without the word ‘not’.
Say:
We can answer in complete sentences or we can use the short form.
For example: Do you like coffee?
I can say: Yes, I like coffee. Or, Yes, I do.
Or: No, I don’t like coffee. Or, No, I don’t.
Say:
The same is also true when we want to make interrogative sentence, i.e. questions with
‘have’.
For example: Do you have brown eyes?
I can say: Yes, I do. Or, Yes, I have brown eyes.
Or: No, I don’t have brown eyes.
Have the students read the chart and the examples. Explain anything that isn’t clear to
them.
