Likewise, at the start of each unit in the Teacher’s Guide there is a comprehensive list of all the
benchmarks that are covered in the unit as well as a synopsis of each unit, giving you a unit
overview at a glance.
The answers to the activities in the Student’s Book appear in the Teacher’s Guide next to each
activity.
Additional ideas or suggestions, information and resources are provided where appropriate
for a large variety of the activities. These are at your disposal and you can choose what to do
with them and when.
Following this section, there is a section on how to work with the different types of activities in
the Student’s Book, giving you a clear, easy to use overview.
VIII. Using the Teacher’s Guide – Features and Activities and Teaching Tips
i. Teaching Vocabulary – with the book
Tip: Set aside the first five minutes of every lesson for a quick vocabulary review!
The vocabulary for each section is taught at the beginning of that section. The words appear in
the Vocabulary Ruler of the double spread. This enables you to teach the vocabulary before
actually reaching the reading or listening task and it will enable the students to approach the
tasks more confidently.
It’s very important to review the Words I Know and to teach the New Words in the
Vocabulary Ruler throughout the book, although they are translated. It’s important not only
to work on translation but also to show students how to use the word in a sentence so they
will not only understand the meaning but also the part of speech each word belongs to.
It’s a good idea to encourage students to create a dictionary notebook of all the words they
know. They could include the word, the definition or translation and an example sentence
from the book or one they make up on their own. In this manner they will develop the habit of
referring to their personal dictionary.
On the next two pages are a few ideas to help you teach and review the vocabulary.
