I Love Literature!
Did you know..?
Have the students read the question and discuss the
different ways people relate to animal sounds around the
world.
Pre-Reading
1. Let’s Talk!
Ask students to look at the title ‘o-no-ma-toe-pee-ya’.
Have the students try to say the word ‘onomatopoeia’.
Ask them to give you more examples of words that are
onomatopoeic, such as: bubble, buzz, burp, hiccup, etc.
Elicit that all these words are sounds. Ask students to
think of onomatopoeic words in their L1.
AL: Students identify words that are
the same in English and their home
language.
SI: Students interact for a limited range
of purposes, such as following basic
instructions and directions, asking for
and giving information, making and
fulfilling simple requests.
2. Before You Read!
HOTS: PREDICT
Have the students look at the title and scan the text.
Ask: What different sounds are in the play? After a few
students share their ideas, ask the class what they think will
happen in this play.
While Reading
3. Let’s Read!

Have the students read the play and ask:

• Who is asking Ethan where he’s going? (the car)
• Where are they going? (to Bill’s Bowling)
• What time will they be there? (at 8:05 pm)
• Who does Ethan want to play with? (his noisy monsters)
• Who is driving Ethan? (the car)
• What does he tell the noisy monsters to do first? (tickle)
P: Students express a personal
reaction to the content of
something read, seen or heard,
using the appropriate higherorder thinking skills for this level.
ALC: Students identify and
describe events, setting and
main characters in literary texts,
using lower-order thinking skills.
