EASIER OPTION: If your students are still finding it hard to write sentences on their own,
provide them with a pattern that they could use to write a complete sentence. You can start
with ‘The opposite of … is ….’ After they’ve done this, you can give them a structure such as:
A … is (slow) but a … is (fast). Have them fill in the blanks with words they know, for
example: A turtle is slow but a tiger is fast. Give them different adjective opposites to make
more sentences.
CHALLENGING OPTION: If your students are able to, have them write four sentences using
the opposite pairs that make up a short rhyme or riddle and have share with the class.
7. Let’s Write!
HOTS: GENERATE POSSIBILITIES
. Have the students look at the pictures and try to describe what
they think each item will be able to do. Have them express their
ideas orally.
P: Students describe
people, places, things,
events and personal
experiences in familiar
settings.
Then have them work alone or in pairs and complete in their
notebooks the sentences relating to each picture. They should
write what they think the item will be able to do. They can use what was discussed or if they
have other ideas, they should write them. Have the students then read their ideas and
discuss any that seem worthy of further discussion.
. Have the students describe in their notebooks how smart lights will help save energy
using the words in the word bank. They should write two sentences for each picture.
WKBK: Have the students turn to workbook pages 185-186 and do exercises 3-5.
8. Let’s Do It!
Have the students ‘invent’ their own ‘smart thing’.
P: Students use given
criteria, such as a
checklist/rubric to prepare
presentations.
They have to draw a picture and write at least three sentences
using adjectives and the new vocabulary to describe the smart
thing and what it does.
P: Students present information
on limited content, supported by
visual aids.
