LFO Teacher's Guide - Book - Page 21
These are usually extra activities so if your school does not have access, the Teacher’s Guide
offers the same information in a simpler form to enable the teacher to share the same
information.
xii. Option (aimed at heterogeneous classes)
In the Teacher's Guide, after many of the activities, there are ideas for an extra activity to do
with your class, where possible. The aim is to offer another option for some of the activities.
You can opt for the option instead of the actual task if it is more suitable for your class. Both
easier and more challenging options appear throughout.
xiii. Brainteaser
These are challenges for the students. They offer a chance to predict, to make connections
and to show their comprehension of what was being discussed in the section. The answers
appear in the Teacher’s Guide to enable you easy access.
xiv. Let’s Remember!
The first exercise of Part 6 in each unit is called Let’s Remember! Here the students are given
an opportunity to review the information they’ve collected in the unit and to remember what
they were working on before finishing off the story for the unit. It’s important to have the
students do these tasks as they offer a chance to review not only the story but the language,
vocabulary and the grammatical structures. It’s also a chance to show the students how much
they know.
xv. I Love Literature!
The end of each unit has a section called I Love Literature! where the students are offered a
chance to become familiar with a piece of literature, to read and enjoy as well as to analyze
via comprehension work both at the LOTS and the HOTS level, via the Key Components, as
required by the Revised National Curriculum from 2015. Each Key Component is clearly
marked in the Teacher’s Guide.
xvi. Unit Reflection
Each unit ends with a short unit reflection which offers the students a chance to reflect on
what they have learned and what they feel they know by the end of the unit. Likewise, they
should take the I can do that! Self Test at the end of the unit in the Workbook.
xvii. Independent Reading
All Independent Reading passages, with their accompanying activities in the Workbook offer
the students an opportunity to work on enjoyable reading passages at an accessible level.
These are passages that are meant to be done individually and without the teacher’s
assistance. However, should the student need assistance, feel free to offer it to him or her.
