HOTS: MAKE CONNECTIONS
Have the students read the Brainteaser and answer it.

WKBK: Have the students turn to workbook page 160 and do exercises 3-5.
Pullout Box
Have the students go back to page 160 and look at the pullout box. Have them read the

WKBK OPTION: Have the students turn to workbook pages 161-163 and do the Independent
Reading task to solve the mystery there. If the reading is too difficult for your class or if you
wish to approach this pullout box differently, you can provide the students with the
following information after you ask them who they met and who they think the mystery
person is.
Tim Berners-Lee
Tim Berners-Lee is famous because he found a way for computers around the world to ‘talk’
to each other. It is called the World Wide Web (www), and we use it anytime our computers
are connected to the Internet.
Pages 162-163
8. Language Focus!
Imperatives
Have the students look at the box on page 162 and read the sign
from the library.
Ask them what they see. They should notice that it’s a list of
instructions, commands or rules. Have them give oral examples of
rules that are familiar with or have seen, at the pool or community
center.
AL: Students know how
word order, sound and
writing systems in
English are organized
and how these elements
compare with their
home language.
Read the explanation and have the students notice that the sentences start with a verb
(take, write) if it’s something you should do and with ‘don’t’ if it’s something you shouldn’t
do. Have the students read the examples and the explanation.
Have the students try to make a few of their own rules, orally.
