4. Let’s Write!
Have the students write at least two sentences about the picture in
their notebooks. Encourage them to write more if possible. They
should use the words in the word bank to write their sentences. You
can have them share their work when they are finished.

EASIER OPTION: Have the students only write what goes with each
word, for example: looking at – film, talking about – monster, saying – cool
CHALLENGING OPTION: Have the students write a short dialogue among the characters in
the picture. What do they think the kids are saying?
WKBK: Have the students turn to workbook pages 130-131 and do exercises 1-4.
WKBK OPTION: Have the students turn to pages 132-133 and do the Independent Reading
task there.

Part 6 – A Surprise at the End!
Before starting this section, review the vocabulary words that were taught in the unit
through an activity or two. See pg. vii, Teaching Vocabulary.
HOTS: PREDICT
Section Title – Turn the students’ attention to the heading of the section. Ask them to try to
guess what the surprise might be. Remind them of their answers at the end of the section to
see how many of the students were correct.

HOTS: GENERATE POSSIBILITIES
They should then answer the question at the bottom of page 134, “What do you think
happens next?” Have them share their answers after they finish writing.
