Vocabulizer – Digital Platform
The Vocabulizer digital platform allows students to learn, review, practice and test their
understanding of vocabulary items in a digital, gamified environment. They can do this as part
of a whole-class activity or at home at their own pace. This corresponds directly with the
vocabulary that appears in the Vocabulary Rulers throughout the book.
To make use of the Vocabulizer, you will need internet access. Providing you have access, you
should encourage the students to use it. If you don’t have access to the online site for any
reason, you should teach the new vocabulary (see Teaching Vocabulary) and review the
familiar words on the board using a variety of activities.
If you do have access to the online site, then make use of the Vocabulizer to its fullest.
The Vocabulizer provides contextualized visual (both picture and word) and audio scaffolding;
students can choose to learn each of the following aspects either alone, or all at once:

word in context (from the page)
word in a new context
The platform has three stages: Learn it!, Use It! and Check It!
In the Learn It! stage students scan a vocabulary list from the Vocabulary Ruler in their books
to learn and review the words on the list.
In the Use It! stage students play a game that generates random multiple-choice questions at
different levels to check students’ mastery of words on a list. Students cannot fail at this
game; they are prompted to keep trying until they choose the correct response out of four
possible answers for each question. Each incorrect guess reveals another hint to the correct
answer.
The Vocabulizer features the following matching activity types:

Students can review words as often as they like, and get practically endless combinations of
words, questions and answers; this makes it more fun to keep practicing.
