LFO Teacher's Guide - Book - Page 114
students turn to the pullout box about the author, Louise Fitzhugh, on page 84 and have the
students read this again. Then ask how her life might be connected to Harriet. They should
be able to make a connection between the fact that Harriet is 11 years old and likes to write
in her notebook and Louise Fitzhugh started writing her first books when she was 11. Maybe
Harriet is similar to Louise.
Summative Assessment
8. Let’s Play!
HOTS: MAKE CONNECTIONS
Play the ‘I Spy’ game with the class. You say: I spy with my little eye,
something that starts with the letter (A). The students have to
guess what you are referring to. It should be something they are
familiar with and are able to see easily.
SI: Engage in short
conversations by asking
and answering questions.
The student who guesses correctly comes to the front of the class (or if you prefer, from his
or her seat) and says: I spy with my little eye something that starts with the letter (G), and
the class guesses. Each time the leader chooses the correct letter to correspond with what
he or she is looking at.
Play a number of rounds to enable many students to participate.
9. Reflection
Have the students answer the question in their notebooks. They
should provide logical and clear reasoning.
ALC: Students reflect on a
literary text.
Unit Reflection
Have the students go to workbook pages 96-97 and complete I Can Do That! Self Test. When
they are finished they should go to page 247 in the workbook and fill in the Reflection Chart.
