•
Say: Open your Course Books to page 46. Look at #1.
•
Before beginning, read each word in the table together with the pupils.
•
▪
Remind pupils that we say “There is…” when there is one of an item, but
“There are…” and add “s” to the word when there is more than one (use L1 if
needed). Say: There is 1 carrot. There are two carrots.
▪
Practice by giving two example sentences (There is/There are), e.g. There is
an onion on the table. There are bananas on the table.
Say: Let’s say the sentences. What is on the kitchen table?
▪
•
Have pupils create sentences based on the pictures by using the table. Call on different pupils to
create different sentences. Be sure pupils choose “There is… / There are…” according to the
number they see. (Elicit, e.g.: There is a cookie on the table. There are peppers on the table.)
Say: Now let's write sentences. Use the table to help you.
▪
Have pupils trace the beginning of the sentences ("There is" / "There are") and complete the
sentences using the substitution table.
•
Say: Open your Course Books to page 47. Look at #2.
•
Before reading, point and say: This is Soo.
•
▪
Read together with the pupils: I want to make sandwiches with my friends. I
need to shop for food. What do I need?
▪
Have the pupils read and elicit the tile: My Shopping List
▪
Tell pupils that this text is a shopping list. Have pupils share if they have
written or used a shopping list (in L1 or in English) before, and what things
might be included in a shopping list.
Say: Let’s read.
▪
Ask volunteers to read each line of the text. Have pupils point to follow along in their Course
Books. Have pupils check off the items on the shopping list after they are read.
•
Say: Look at #3.
•
Say: Let’s answer.
▪
For each question, have pupils show where in the text they found the information.
1 Soo needs chicken. (Elicit: no)
2 Soo needs tuna fish. (Elicit: yes)
3 Soo needs 2 peppers. (Elicit: yes)
