Teach the new lexical chunks using previously taught vocabulary: What do you need? I need…

Show '(to) shop' flashcard and say: Let’s go shopping. What do you need?
▪
Show flashcards one at a time and say: I need (bread/milk/eggs/cheese).
Show ‘bread’ flashcard and ask: What do you need?
▪
Have the pupils respond: I need (bread).
▪
Repeat for each word.
Course Book

Say: Open your Course Books to page 43. Look at #4.
•
Read the dialogue together with the pupils:
Let’s go shopping. What do you need?
I need milk and eggs.

Demonstrate the dialogue with a volunteer if needed. For weaker pupils, remind
pupils that they can look at the words on pages 26/27, 34 or 42 to help them
answer the question.

Say: Talk to a friend.

In pairs, have the pupils say the dialogue to each other, using any food/drink words they choose.
Then, pupils should switch roles and repeat the dialogue.

Say: Look at #5.
•
Before listening, point to the title and read together with the pupils: The Shopping List

Say: Look at the pictures. Who do you see? (Elicit: I see Mom, Sister, Brother, and a cat.)
Say: Let's listen and find out what is on the shopping list.
▪
Tell pupils to listen and follow along with their finger.
•
After listening, ask: What does Mom need? (Elicit: She needs milk, bananas, eggs, bread, and fish.)
•
Now say: Listen again and circle all the words in the text that have the /sh/ sound.
▪
Give pupils a few minutes to do this on their own or with a partner. Have pupils scan the text for
/sh/ words.
▪
Reveal to check answers and practice the vocabulary. Elicit the words: shopping, milkshake, fish.

Say: Look at #6.

Say: Let's write the shopping list.
