Teach the new vocabulary word “say” through the context of the instruction.

Have pupils point to each word in their Course Books and say the words.
•
Ask: How do you say these words in your language? Do they sound the same? (Elicit some cognates
in L1, for example: salad, chocolate, etc.)

Ask: Do you like (salad)? (Have pupils put give a thumbs up and say: Yes, I like salad. / Or give a
thumbs down and say: No, I don’t like salad.)

Repeat several times to review the lexical chunk.
Game
•
Say: Let's play a game.
•
Play the game to review and practice the vocabulary: sandwich, salad, chocolate, cookie, jam, water,
juice, tea, coffee, apple, banana, cake, pizza, egg, milk, lemon.
•
Stop Me When… (game #5)

Say: Stop me when you see (a sandwich).
▪
Start showing the flashcards one at a time. Keep showing the flashcards until the pupils shout
"Stop!"
▪
Ask: What is this? (Elicit: This is (a sandwich).)
▪
Repeat with all the words.
Course Book
•
Say: Open your Course Books to page 26. Look at #1.
•
Say: Let’s read and circle.
▪
Read each sentence together with the pupils. After each sentence, have
pupils circle “like” or “don’t like” based on their preference.
▪
Then, ask: Do you like (eggs)? (Have volunteers to read each sentence as you
ask, completing the sentences with the preference they circled.)
•
Say: Look at #2.
•
Say: Let's ask and answer.
•
Show the table on the board. Practice the dialogue with a volunteer. Ask:

What is your name? (Elicit: My name is…) Write the pupil's name in the first column in the table.
▪
Remind pupils that their names in L1 sound the same in English.
▪
Do you like cake? (Elicit: Yes, I like cake. / No, I don’t like cake.) Mark ✓ or X in the relevant
column based on the pupil’s response.
▪
Repeat the dialogue to complete the table.
