16. Let's Line UP
•
Have pupils line up in the order (of their birthdays, age, etc.). Pupils must talk to each other
to decide if they should line up in front of or behind another pupil. Before allowing pupils to
begin, have pupils practice asking and saying the lexical chunks.
▪
Ask different pupils: What month is your birthday? (Elicit the month)
▪
Ask: What day is your birthday? (Elicit the day. NOTE: pupils can use the cardinal form
of the number, as opposed to the ordinal, e.g. November nine, as opposed to ninth)
•
Give pupils a few minutes to line up in the correct order.
•
When they are finished, check the order by asking each pupil the appropriate lexical chunk.
•
If pupils are not in the correct order, correct them by placing them in the line according to
their answer.
17. BINGO
•
Have pupils fill out the BINGO board by choosing 9 words and writing them in any order in
the boxes.
•
Hand out BINGO chips or small pieces of paper for pupils to use during the game.
•
Randomly select a word. Say: Look for _____ .
•
•
▪
Write the word on the board.
▪
If pupils have the word on their board, they cover it with a BINGO chip.
▪
Repeat by selecting another word.
When a pupil gets three in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) the pupil must raise
their hand and call: BINGO!
▪
Have the pupils read you which three words were covered and check them against the
words on the board.
▪
Have pupils clear their boards of chips.
▪
Reset the game and play again by calling the words in a different random order.
You may choose to have the winning pupil run the next round and call out the words.
18. Picture This
•
Choose a word. Draw a picture to illustrate it on the board.
•
Ask: What is this? (As you draw, have pupils guess the word based on your picture. Elicit the
word.)
•
Repeat to practice other words.
•
Play the game in teams. Choose a volunteer from each team to come to the board and draw
a word. Tell the volunteer which word to draw. The first team to guess what the word is
receives one point. Play a few rounds.
