12. Tic Tac Toe
•
In a grid of 3x3, write any numbers 1-100.
•
Divide the class into two groups. Each group is assigned either an X or an O.
•
Have each group chose a representative who comes to the front of the room. The
representative should be a different pupil each time the group takes a turn.
•
Have one group representative point to and say a word.
•
If the answer is correct, mark X or an O in its place, if the answer is incorrect, move on to the
other team.
•
The first team that receives 3 marks that form a row (vertically, horizontally, or diagonally) is
the winner.
•
Use different words to play a second time.
13. I Say/You Say
•
Say one of the words on the board and have the pupils respond with its opposite: I say
(close), you say… (Elicit: open)
•
Hide the cards from the board once the pupils respond correctly.
•
The teacher may choose to play the game as a group competition in class.
14. No, No, No, Ha, Ha, Ha
•
Present each flashcard one at a time.
•
Use the vocabulary to create a sentence.
•
If what you say is correct, pupils repeat the sentence.
•
If what you say is incorrect, pupils say: No, no, no, ha, ha, ha!
•
Repeat the game several times with different words.
•
Ask a pupil to lead the game.
•
The pupil can say the sentence with a correct or incorrect response, and the rest of the class
should respond accordingly.
15. Memory Game
•
Divide the class into two groups to play the game as a competition.
•
Hide and mix the flashcards and word cards.
•
Call a pupil from one group to the front of the class. Have the pupil turn over a card, look at
the picture and say what it is. Then, the pupil turns over another card, looking for the pair
(i.e. sun/ sunny).
•
If the pupil finds a pair elicit: I have sun and sunny. The pupil wins a point for their team.
•
If the pupil does not find a pair, call up a volunteer from the other group and repeat.
•
The group that has the most points when all the pairs have been found wins.
