Play the game to review and practice the vocabulary: cloud, rain, sun, snow, wind, cold, hot, cool,
warm.
•
Picture This (game #18)

Choose a weather word. Draw a picture to illustrate the weather on the board.
▪
Ask: What’s the weather? (As you draw, have pupils guess the weather based on your picture.
Elicit: It is (rainy).)
▪
Repeat to practice other weather words.
▪
Play the game in teams. Choose a volunteer from each team to come to the board and draw the
weather. Tell the volunteer which weather word to draw. Have pupils ask: What’s the weather?

Course Book
•
Say: Open your Course Books to page 260. Look at #5.
•
Before reading, ask if the pupils recognize what type of text this is.
•
•
▪
Tell pupils that this text type is an e-mail (use L1 if needed). Ask pupils about
their experiences with e-mail – do they have their own e-mail address? Do
their parents receive or send e-mails?
▪
Elicit from the pupils what type of information must be in an e-mail, for
example, the e-mail address of the receiver and a subject line. Point to these
elements in the text as you discuss them.
Ask: Who is the e-mail to? (Elicit: Sara) Who is the e-mail from? (Abby)
▪
Point out to pupils that an e-mail must begin with "Dear (Person's Name),". Teach the new word
"dear" through the context of the text (use L1 if needed to explain the meaning).
▪
Read the subject line together with the pupils and have them look at the picture for clues. Ask:
What do you think the e-mail is about? (Elicit any logical response.)
Say: Let's read the e-mail and find out what Abby wants to say to Sara.
▪
•
•
Read the text together as a class. Have pupils point to follow along in their Course Books.
After reading, ask: Where is Abby? (Elicit: Abby is in Canada.)
▪
What is the weather in Canada? (Elicit: It is cool and windy.)
▪
What does Abby ask Sara? (Elicit: She asks, "What is the weather in Israel?")
Say: Let's mark yes or no according to Abby's e-mail.
