examples of R-blends, and some vocabulary examples for each.)

Say: Open your Course Books to page 250. Look at #1.
•
Point to the letter L-blends and say: Look at the pictures. What words do you
know with B+L /bl/ in the beginning? (Elicit: black, blue)

Repeat for each L-blend: C+L /kl/, F+L /fl/, G+L /gl/, P+L /pl/
Say: Let's write the first two letters in each word.

Have pupils write the letters (consonant+L) to complete the words, then ask:
What words did you write? (Read and elicit: clean, play, cloud, black, place,
clothes, glue, flower, close, blue, closet)

Say: Look at #2.
•
Say: Write the words from #1 in the correct box.

Give pupils a few minutes to do this on their own or with a partner.

Reveal to check answers and ask different volunteers to read the words they wrote in each box.

Say: Open your Course Books to page 251. Look at #3.

Before listening, say: Look at the boy. Who is he? (Elicit or remind pupils that
this is Alex, Soo’s brother from the text on the World Market)

Ask: What does Alex have? (Elicit: He has a bag for a trip.)
▪
What do you think Alex has in his bag? (Elicit any logical response)
Say: Let's read and find out what Alex wants to bring on his trip.

Ask for volunteers to read the text.

After reading, ask: What does Alex want to bring on his trip? (Elicit: Alex wants to bring clothes.)

Now say: Read again and circle all the words in the text that have an L-blend combination.
▪
Show pupils that they can use the “Remember” words at the bottom of the page to help them.
▪
Give pupils a few minutes to do this on their own or with a partner.
▪
Ask volunteers to say the words they circled to check answers.
