Give pupils a few minutes to complete the sentences. Remind pupils that they can copy the foods
from task #4.

Say: Open your Course Books to page 245. Look at #6.

Before reading, ask pupils if they know what type of text this is. Remind pupils
that this is a recipe, and that they have seen this text type before, in Unit 1.
Remind pupils that recipes have lists of ingredients (shopping list) and
instructions.

Ask: What does Soo want to make? (Read and elicit: pad thai)

Do you remember what country pad thai comes from? (Elicit: It comes from
Thailand.)
Say: Soo and her Mom want to make pad thai. Let's read the recipe and help them by numbering
the pictures in the correct order.

Read the recipe together as a class. Have pupils point to follow along in their Course Books. Point
to the different steps of the recipe and ask different pupils to read the text.

Give pupils some time to number the pictures according to the instructions in the recipe.
After reading, ask: What do you need to make pad thai? (Elicit: noodles, soy sauce, chicken, eggs, red
pepper, green onion)
