Ask: Take away /e/ and add /a/, what do you hear? (Elicit: /p/ /a/ /n/)

Show flashcard and say together with the pupils: pan

Write the word on the board by taking away the letter E and writing A.

Repeat the process of manipulating the sounds and letters from pan → fan → man → Max →
mix → six → sit → hit → hot → hat.
Show ‘hat’ flashcard and say: Take away /h/ and add a sound to /at/ to make rhyming words. (Elicit:
mat, fat, cat)

Have pupils complete the tasks on pages 8 – 11.
Review the instructions for each task before allowing pupils to
work on their own or with a partner.

#4: Help the kids go to school. Write the big and small
letters to complete the ABCs.

#5: Circle the letter that matches the big or small letter in
each row.

#6: Write the letter that makes the sound you hear in the beginning of each word.
