LEGENDARY Teacher's Guide - Book - Page 30
•
Say: Stand up when you hear the first letter of your name.
Course Book
•
Say: Open your Course Books to page 7.
•
Play the “ABC Song” (song #1.42) again and have pupils point to each letter in
their Course Books as they sing.
•
Review the words on the page. Say: Look at the pictures. What do you see?
(Point and elicit: apple, banana, cat, dog, egg, fan, gift, house, in, job, king,
lemon, milk, net, on, pan, queen, run, sun, tree, umbrella, vet, woman, box,
yellow, zoo.)
•
Ask different pupils: What letter does your name begin with? What picture also
begins with the same letter?
•
Now, have pupils explore the Course Book with a partner or small group by scanning the pages to
look for the images in task #3. Say:
•
▪
Look in the Course Book for the pictures. Find as many as you can. Write the page numbers
where you find the pictures.
▪
Give pupils a few minutes to do this with their partner(s). Pupils do not need to find all the words
on the page.
After they are finished, ask volunteers to show the class some of the pictures they found in the
Course Book. Ask: Where do you see (an apple)?
▪
Point to the picture and say together with the pupils: The letter is A and the sound is /a/. The
word is apple.
▪
Repeat to practice several letters.
NOTE
•
The teacher can choose to split the pupils into groups and assign each group some letters/words to
find. As another alternative, the teacher can choose to do the activity as a group competition by
giving a set time limit and asking pupils to find as many words as they can before the time runs out.
The group that has found the most words after a set time wins the competition.
Phonemic Awareness
•

▪
What sound do you hear at the end of the word ‘pen’? (Elicit: /n/)
▪
How many sounds does the word ‘pen’ have? (Elicit: 3)
▪
Say and use your fingers to count the sounds: /p/ /e/ /n/ ‘pen’
▪
