Say: Open your Course Books to page 200. Look at #5.

Ask: What day is it today? (Elicit: Today is (Sunday).)

What day in (March) is it? (Elicit the day of the month.)

Say the full date and write it on the board: Today is (Sunday), (March 9).

Say: Copy the date into in your Course Book.
▪
Ask (use L1 if needed): What date is it today? (Elicit the date by having pupils
read #1: Today is (Sunday), (March 9).)
Go around the room and ask a few volunteers: What month is your birthday? (Elicit the month)

Say: Write your birthday month in #2.
Ask a few volunteers: What is your favorite month? (Elicit: My favorite month is…)
▪
Ask: Why is ___ your favorite? (Pupils can answer in L1 if needed).

Say: Write your favorite month in #3.

Remind pupils that they can copy the months from the new words box at the bottom of the page.

Say: Look at #6.
•
Say: Let's number the months of the year in the correct order. Then, write the months in the correct
order. Use the new words box at the bottom of the page to help you.

Show pupils that the first month (January) is numbered for them.

Reveal to check answers. Have pupils read the right-hand column out loud together to check answers
and practice the vocabulary.

Say: Open your Course Books to page 201. Look at #7.
•
Point out that the text does not have a title yet.
•
Before reading, say: Scan the text and circle all the months of the year.

Remind pupils that months of the year always begin with a capital letter.

Give pupils a few minutes to do this.

Look at the pictures. What do you see? (Elicit the vocabulary: winter, spring,
summer, fall)
Say: Let's read the poem and find out which months are in each season.

Read the text together as a class. Have pupils point to follow along in their Course Books.
After reading, ask: What are the winter months? (Elicit: December, January, February)

Have pupils show where they circled the names of the months in the text.
▪
Repeat to ask about each season and check answers.
