Where do you think Mom, Dad and the baby are? (Elicit: They are in the
city.)

What do you think happens in the story? (Accept any logical answer)
Say: Let's listen and find out what happens to the family.

Tell pupils to listen and follow along with their finger.
After listening, ask: Is the baby happy or sad at the beginning of the story? (Elicit (in L1 if needed):
He is sad because his balloons fly up to the sky.)

Is the baby happy or sad at the end of the story? (Elicit (in L1 if needed): He is happy because
Mom buys a new balloon.)
▪
What is the weather in the story? (Elicit: It is windy.)
Now say: Listen again and circle all the words in the text that have the letter "y".

Give pupils a few minutes to do this on their own or with a partner.

Ask volunteers to say the words they circled to check answers.

Say: Look at #4.

Say: Write the words from the text with the letter "y" in the right column. Write words where "y"
makes the sound /y/ in the green column, the /E/ sound in the blue column, and the /I/ sound in
the yellow column.
