Teach the new lexical chunks using previously taught vocabulary: What’s the weather today? It is
(cloudy/rainy/sunny/snowy/windy)

Show flashcards one at a time and ask: What’s the weather today? It is (cloudy).

Repeat for each word.

Point out to pupils that we add -y (/E/) to the end of weather words when we describe the
weather.

Say: Let's play a game.

Play the game to review and practice the vocabulary: snow, snowy, wind, windy, sun, sunny, rain,
rainy, cloud, cloudy.

Memory Game (game #15)

Divide the class into two groups to play the game as a competition.
▪
Hide and mix the flashcards and word cards.
▪
Call a pupil from one group to the front of the class. Have the pupil turn over a card, look at the
picture and say what it is. Then, the pupil turns over another card, looking for the pair (i.e. sun/
sunny).
▪
If the pupil finds a pair elicit: I have sun and sunny. The pupil wins a point for their team.
