Point to the image with the policewoman and ask: What do you see? (Elicit: I see
a policewoman, a boy/Tom, a street, and a traffic light.)

Read the speech bubble together with the pupils: You need to be safe when you
cross the street. A policeman or woman can help you. These rules are very
important.

What do you think the policewoman is doing? (Elicit any logical answer.)
Ask pupils what they think the rules are for crossing the street. Elicit any logical answer. Have
pupils look at the pictures for clues.
Say: Let’s read the rules for crossing the street. Number the rules in the correct order.

Ask volunteers to read the rules and decide as a class what the correct order is.

Reveal to check answers and ask: How do you cross the street safely? (Elicit the rules in order. Have
pupils read the rules from the Course Book.)

Say: Open your Course Books to page 167. Look at #2.
•
Before reading, say: Look at the picture. What do you see? (Elicit: I see a traffic
light. I see two men – a red man and a green man.)

Read together with the pupils: Two men live in the traffic light. Their names
are Mr. Red and Mr. Green. These are their songs…

Teach the new vocabulary “song" through the context of the text (use L1 if
needed to explain the meaning).

Say: Point to Mr. Red. What do you think his job is? (Elicit: to say “stop”)

Point to Mr. Green. What do you think his job is? (Elicit: to say “go”)
Say: Let's read and find out what the men say.

Read the text together as a class. Have pupils point to follow along in their Course Books.
