Present each card one at a time and say the words: important, safe, sign, traffic light,
cross the street.
Say: Open your Course Books to page 166. Look at the new words.

Have pupils point to each word in their Course Books and say the words and new lexical chunk.
Ask: What are some street signs you see in your town/city? (Elicit any logical answer, elicit in L1 if
needed then restate words in English: stop, go, cross the street, be careful (yield), street names, go
left/right, etc.)

Say: Let's play a game.
•
Play the game to practice and review the vocabulary/lexical chunks: important, safe, sign,
light, cross the street, behind, in front of, to the right of, to the left of, wait.

Number/Picture Game (game #1)

Write the numbers 1-10 below each picture.
▪
Say a word that is on one of the flashcards. Tell the pupils look at the number under the picture
and say the number while holding up the correct number of fingers.
▪
Alternate by you saying a number and the pupils replying with the corresponding word.
▪
After a few turns, shuffle the words on the board so that the numbers change.
