Before reading, ask: What kind of text is this? (Elicit in L1 if needed: text
messages/SMS.)

Say: Look at the map on page 158. Point to Tom. Where is he? (Elicit: Tom is in
the park.)

Point to Jamal. Where is he? (Elicit: Jamal is at his house.)
Say: Let’s read the messages and find out what Tom and Jamal want to do.

Ask: Who is talking in the messages? (Have pupils scan the text for the
names and elicit: Tom and Jamal)
Ask volunteers (or small groups chorally) to read each message. Have pupils circle the words of
places in town as they are mentioned in the text.
After reading, say: Look at the map on page 158.

Where do the boys meet? (Elicit and have pupils point on the map: They meet at the park.)

Where do the boys want to go after the park? (Elicit and have pupils point on the map: They
want to go to the pizza restaurant.)
