Sing “Talking Vowel Rule" (song #2.59).

Use the words in the song to review the “Talking Vowel Rule.” Pause the song to review the
vowel teams and vocabulary: green, sleep, queen, read, ears, tea, eat, chair, airplane, hair.
Write the vowel teams on the board and ask: What sound does “ee” / “ea” / “ai” / “ay” / “oa”
make? (Elicit the sounds.)

What words do you know with this sound? (Elicit any words the pupils remember for each sound
and show the flashcards.)

Teach the new vocabulary in the Course Book using the flashcards.

Say: Today we will learn more sounds made with two vowels together.
▪
Present each card one at a time and say the words: cloud, outside.
Ask: What sound do you hear in all the words? (Elicit: /ow/)

For each word, ask: Do you hear the sound /ow/ in the beginning, middle, or end of the word?
