Say: Open your Course Books to page 142. Look at #1.

Before reading, point to the title and read together with the pupils: My New
Neighbors

Ask pupils to predict what the text is about based on the pictures and title.
Elicit some responses.
▪
Ask pupils to scan the text and find the names of the people. Remind pupils
that names in English begin with capital letters.
Say: Let's read.
▪
Read the profiles together as a class. Have pupils point to follow along in their Course Books.
▪
Teach the new vocabulary words “work” and “station” through the context of the text (use L1 if
needed to explain the meaning).
▪
After reading once, ask for volunteers to read the profiles again and say: Circle the places in town
where the neighbors work.
After reading, review pupils’ predictions about the text. Ask: Who are the people in the text? (Elicit:
They are Jamie’s new neighbors.)

Ask: Who are your neighbors? Do you know their names? (Elicit some personal responses.)
Challenge a strong class to do a challenge task.

Allow different pupils a chance to give a personal response to the questions/discuss as a class:
1 What job does your Mom or Dad have?
2 Where does your Mom or Dad work?
3 What job do you want to have?

Say: Open your Course Books to page 143. Look at #2.
•
Say: Match the name of the neighbor from the text to where they work and
their job.

Do the first one as an example, and then give pupils a few minutes to
complete the matching on their own or with a partner.
Reveal to check answers. For each person, have pupils find the information in the
text.

Say: Look at #3.
•
Say: Let’s write the sentences from the text in the correct order.
