date, place, etc.)
▪
Ask: Who is the invitation from? How do you know? (Point and elicit: Jamal)
▪
What do you think the invitation is for? (Elicit any logical response,
including: Jamal’s birthday party)
Say: Let's read and find out what the invitation is for.
▪
Read together as a class or ask volunteers to read each line.

After reading, ask: What is the invitation for? (Elicit: Jamal's birthday party)
▪
How old is Jamal? (Elicit: He is nine years old.)

Now, say: Find and circle all the words that have a long vowel (/A/, /I/, /O/, or /U/) and Magic E in
different colors. Write one word for each long sound on the lines.
▪
Give pupils a few minutes to do this on their own or with a partner. Have pupils scan the text for
Magic E words.
▪
Reveal to check answers and practice the vocabulary. Elicit the words: /A/ - cake, games; /I/ nine, five; /O/ - more; /U/ - blue.
