Stop Me When… (game #5)

Say: Stop me when you see (buy).
▪
Start showing the flashcards one at a time. Keep showing the flashcards until the pupils shout
"Stop!"

Ask: What is this? (Elicit the word.)
▪
Repeat with all the words.

Say: Open your Course Books to page 106. Look at #1.

Say: Before we read, let's scan the text to find the new words:
buy, new, old. Count how many of each word you find and
write the number in the box.

Give pupils a few minutes to do this on their own or with a
partner. Encourage pupils to circle each word in a different
color as they find them.
▪
Ask to check answers: How many times did you find each
word? (Elicit:
buy = 5, new = 4, old = 1)

Say: Look at #2.

Before reading, point to the title and read together with the pupils: Let's Go Shopping!

Teach the new lexical chunk “go shopping” through the context of the title (use L1 if needed to
explain the meaning).
▪
Ask: Look at the pictures. What do you think the girls are shopping for? (Elicit any logical
answer.)
Say: Now let's read and find out what the girls shop for.

Read the comic together as a class. Have pupils follow along in their Course Books.
After reading, ask: What do the girls shop for? (Elicit: They shop for new clothes and new shoes.)

Ask: Do you like to shop for clothes/shoes? (Elicit: Yes, I do. / No, I don't.)
▪
(Use L1 if needed) Where do you like to buy new clothes? (e.g. In the store, online, etc.)

Say: Open your Course Books to page 107. Look at #3.
•
Ask: What do the girls buy at the store? Let’s circle and color the clothes according to the text.

Give pupils a few minutes to do this on their own or with a partner.
Ask to check answers: What do the girls buy at the store? (Elicit: They buy red shoes, a blue shirt, and
a pink skirt.)
