Draw attention to the long /O/ sounds and the Magic E in “Rose” and “nose”.

Draw pupils’ attention to the word box. Point out that the words have the long
/O/ sound and the Magic E.

Say: Let's read and find out what Rose smells in the store. Let’s complete the text with the words
from the word box.

Read the lines of the text together with the pupils. Elicit the missing words and have pupils write
them to complete the text.
1 This is Rose. She has a long (nose).
2 Rose is at the (store). She can smell cookies, cake, and more!
3 But (Rose) can smell fish and meat, too. They do not smell like the cakes do!
4 Now, wherever she goes, Rose needs to (close) her nose!

fish and meat.)
