cake.)

Ask: What do you think the listening will be about? (Elicit any logical
answer)
Say: Let's listen and find out what happens to Jake’s cake.

Tell pupils to listen and follow along with their finger.
▪
Teach the new vocabulary word “now” and "again" through the context of the text (use L1 if
needed to explain the meaning).
After listening, ask: Who is Jake? (Elicit: Jake is a man.) Who is Nate? (Elicit: Nate is a dog/Jake's dog.)

What does Jake do? (Elicit: Jake bakes cakes.)

What happens to Jake’s cake? (Elicit: Nate eats the cake.)
Say: Let's match the story to the pictures.

Have the pupils match the paragraphs to the correct picture. Have pupils say what information in
the text tells them which image to match it with.
Now, say: Listen again and find and circle all the words in the text that have the Magic E and make
the long A sound.

Give pupils a few minutes to do this on their own or with a partner. Have pupils scan the text for
Magic E Long A words.

Reveal to check answers and practice the vocabulary. Elicit the words: Jake, bake, cake, name,
Nate, same.
