Game Instruc琀椀ons
1. Throw the Cube
• Toss the Game Cube to a pupil and have Max the Puppet say: Hello. What is your
name?
• The pupil responds with their name.
• The pupil tosses the cube back to you.
• Repeat with as many pupils as time allows.
• As the pupils become more comfortable in English,
Have pupils respond: My name is…
Have pupils toss the cube to other pupils to ask their names.
2. Finger Game
• Hold up fingers and ask pupils to tell you the correct number.
• Then, say a number and ask pupils to hold up the correct number of fingers.
• Repeat to practice all the numbers.
3. Max Says
• Have Max say a command using the vocabulary: Max says… (Girls, stand up) / (Boys,
turn around)
• Pupils should act out the gesture only when you say “Max says…” before it.
• When you give the command without saying “Max says…,” pupils should not do
anything.
• Pupils who do the gesture when you don’t say “Max says…,” or do the wrong
gesture, are "out".
• Model the game a few times to give pupils a chance to get used to the rules before
you start playing.
4. Number/Picture Game
• Show the flashcards and write numbers under each picture.
• Say a word. Have pupils hold up the number of fingers that matches the number
under the picture.
• Then, say a number and have pupils say the correct word.
• To play again, mix the cards on the board so that the numbers change.
5. Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down
• Show a flashcard and say the word. Have pupils give a thumbs up and respond: Yes!
• Show another flashcard and say an incorrect word (for example, show 'duck' but say
"bus"). Have pupils give a thumbs down and respond: No!
• Elicit the correct word for the flashcard.
• Repeat to practice all the words.
