HEROES Teacher's Guide - Book - Page 5
Rationale
1. Overview and Target Population
English Adventure’s Heroes is a story-based, aural/oral program designed for young learners
in their first year of studying English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in accordance with the CEFR
Pre-A1 level.
Heroes is organized around topics which are of interest and relevance to young learners. The
program develops oral communication skills by providing a strong lexical base, emergent
literacy and reading readiness skills, and phonemic awareness as set out in the English
Curriculum 2020 – Pre-Foundation Level.
The program was designed to include four units, each featuring two stories. Each unit is
divided into nine parts, enabling familiarity with the stories, vocabulary, and lexical chunks
being learned.
The program teaches English through the integration of the can-do statements as set out in
the English Curriculum 2020 and the Guidelines for the Teaching of English at the PreFoundation Level Stage 1.
