Say: Open your books to page 187.
•
Review the words with the pupils .
•
Say:
Color the words that end with the sound /f/ red.
Color the words that end with the sound /d/ orange.
Color the words that end with the sound /w/ purple.

Reveal to check answers.
•
Ask: Which pictures did you color red? (Elicit: roof, scarf)
What sound do you hear at the end of the words ‘roof, scarf’? (Elicit: /f/)
Repeat for orange (‘world, bed, friend, red, afraid’ /d/) and purple (‘yellow,
pillow’ /w/).

Use the Course Book page to practice segmenting words into phonemes.
•
Say: Open your books to page 188.
•
Say: Look at #1. What do you see? (Elicit: I see happy.)
•
Ask: How many sounds does the word ‘happy’ have? (Elicit: 4)
Say and count to four on your fingers: /h/ /a/ /p/ /i/ ‘happy’
Have the pupils copy you by counting on their fingers and saying
the sounds.
Say: Listen to the words. Count the sounds you hear in the words on your fingers.
Color in one circle for every sound.

Give pupils some time to do this on their own or with a partner.

Reveal to check answers.
•
Say: Look at ‘in’. How many circles did you color? (Elicit: 2)
Together with the pupils say and count to two on your fingers: /i/ /n/ ‘in’
Repeat for all the words.
