Play the game with the vocabulary: birthday, cake, candle, gift, poster, mom, dad,
happy, balloon, hat.
Present each flashcard one at a time.
Say: This is a (cake).
If what you say is correct, pupils repeat: This is a (cake).
If what you say is incorrect, pupils say: No, no, no, ha, ha, ha!
Demonstrate by showing the ‘hat’ flashcard and saying: This is a (candle).
Say together with the pupils: No, no, no, ha, ha, ha!
Repeat the game several times with different words.
Ask a pupil to lead the game. Ask the pupil: What is this?
The pupil can say: This is a _____ . (correct or incorrect response), and the rest of
the class should respond accordingly.
Lexical Chunks
New

Teach the new lexical chunks: How old are you? I am _____ years old.
Say: How old are you? I am _____ years old.
Ask: How old are you?
Show 6 candles and have the pupils respond: I am six years old.
Add another candle and ask again: How old are you? (Elicit: I am seven years
old.)
Repeat with eight candles.
