Present each flashcard one at a time.
Say: I see a (cat).
If what you say is correct, pupils repeat: I see a (cat).
If what you say is incorrect, pupils say: No, no, no, ha, ha, ha!
Demonstrate by showing the ‘hat’ flashcard and saying: I see a (toaster).
Say together with the pupils: No, no, no, ha, ha, ha!
Repeat the game several times with different words.
Ask a pupil to lead the game. Ask the pupil: What do you see?
The pupil can say: I see a _____ . (correct or incorrect response), and the rest of
the class should respond accordingly.

What sound do you hear at the end of the words bed/sad/red? (Elicit: /d/)
Do you have the same sound /d/ in your language?
Show ‘cat’ flashcard and ask: What is Billy? (Elicit: a cat)
What sound do you hear at the beginning of the word ‘cat’? (Elicit: /k/)
What sound do you hear at the end of the word ‘cat’? (Elicit: /t/)
What sound do you hear in the middle of the word ‘cat’? (Elicit: /a/)
Ask: How many sounds does the word ‘cat’ have? (Elicit: 3)
Say and count to three on your fingers: /k/ /a/ /t/ ‘cat’
Have the pupils copy you by counting on their fingers and saying the sounds.
