Teach the new lexical chunks: What’s that? That’s a…
Show flashcards one at a time and ask: What’s that? That’s a
(bed/chair/cat/frog).
Show ‘bed’ flashcard and ask: What’s that?
Have the pupils respond: That’s a bed.
Repeat for each word.
Show ‘chair’ flashcard and say: That’s a (bed).
Have the pupils respond: No, that’s not a (bed). That’s a chair.
Repeat several times for different words.
Game

Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down (game #10)
Show the flashcards: bed, chair, pillow, toaster, washing machine, cat.
Point to a flashcard and say: That’s a (cat).
If what you say is right, pupils put their thumbs up and say: Yes, that’s a (cat).
If what you say is wrong, pupils put their thumbs down and say: No, that’s not a
(cat).
Repeat several times for each word.

Show the book cover of the story Silly Billy.
•
Point to the cat and ask: What’s that? (Elicit: That’s a cat.)
•
Say: The name of the cat is Billy.
•
Ask:

Is Billy the Cat happy or sad? (Elicit: Billy the Cat is happy.)
