happy? Are they sad? Encourage discussion and allow for the conclusion that they may
have mixed emotions - happy that they helped Amir, and sad that they have to go home.
Tell pupils that Amir is going to give the kids a gift. Ask them to predict what Amir will give
them.
Tell pupils to scan frame 1 of the text and underline the time. (11 o’clock) Then have them
underline the food mentioned. (cake, ice-cream)
Tell pupils to scan frame 2 and underline the food Henry and Lucy bring to the party. (dates,
figs, nuts, jam)
Now have them scan frame 3 for the word gift and then find and underline the names of the
gifts (a flute, a drum). Use the word and picture cards to ensure that pupils understand the
meaning.
Tell pupils to scan frame 3 and underline what Amir wants Henry and Lucy to remember.
(the market, the genie, the desert, Amir)
Tell pupils to scan frame 4 and underline the expressions that mean to have a good time.
(We enjoyed…; It was fun.)
