•
Review the story from the previous lesson by presenting the Story Grammar Map
(Let's Practice Exercise 2 on page 76).
o Write the following words on the board in English and in L1:
Characters, Problem, Solution
o Explain that all stories have characters, often a problem to be solved, but not
necessarily a solution. Ask pupils to recall familiar stories and to name the characters,
the problem and the solution, if there is one.
o Review the story about the grandfather by asking: Who are the characters? (the
grandfather, his grandson, the people who give gifts) What is the problem? (The old
man is sad, nothing makes him happy; He wants to travel and see world, but cannot)
What is the solution? (The grandson makes a magic mirror.)
1. Read and Chant
• Have pupils read the chant and circle the word mirror.
• Ask: How many times does the word mirror appear? (3)
• Ask pupils why they think the word mirror appears so many times in the chant. (It is the
•
•
solution to Amir's problem; It is the most important element in the text.)
Read the chant again with the class.
Place the following word cards on the board: cut, stick, draw, glue, circle. Mime the
meaning of the words. Chant aloud with the whole class, having pupils mime the words cut,
stick and draw.
