1. Listen and Chant
• Have pupils read the chant silently and circle the words free and me.
• Note the different spelling patterns that make the same long vowel sound. Ask pupils if they

Play CD Track 24 and read the chant with the whole class.
Ask: Who is speaking in the chant? (the genie)
Ask pupils what they predict Henry and Lucy will wish for.
Chant together with the whole class.
2. Read and Write
• Have pupils scan the text and underline all the names. (Henry, Lucy, Amir)
• Instruct pupils to underline the two questions. (What are your names? What’s your wish?)

Ask a pupil to read aloud each question.
Play CD Track 25 and have pupils find out what Henry and Lucy’s wish is. Have pupils
write the answer on the line after the story. (They want to find Amir.)
Ask how they think the genie will help them find Amir. Place the word and picture card of
magic carpet on the board.
Instruct pupils to underline the colors mentioned in frame 3. (orange, black, gold, silver)
