Have pupils look at the Language Focus box and read aloud the phrases. Explain that we
add s/es to the 3rd person singular in the Present Simple. Explain that here too, we add es
to some word endings as we did in es plural, to make it easier to pronounce e.g. I brush
my teeth/He brushes his teeth.
Place the word and picture cards of city, village, and farm on the board and teach the
new words (See Introduction: Teaching New Words and Lexical Chunks).
Point to the sentence on the board: Amir lives in the desert. Ask: Where does Amir live?
Elicit the full sentence response as on the board.
Ask: Where do you live? Elicit: I live …
On the board, underline the words in the desert. Below these words write: in a city, in a
village and on a farm.
Ask individual pupils where they live, eliciting a full sentence response.
Have pupils practice this structure in pairs, using the bank at the bottom of the page.

Reflection
Ask: What do you know about Amir? What do you do when someone in your family has a birthday?
