Have each pair of pupils prepare a double-sided sign that says TRUE on one side and
FALSE on the other side.
Read the sentences aloud, having each pair of pupils hold up their sign to show whether
the sentence is true or false.
If a pupil responds incorrectly, refer them to the lines in the text that provide evidence as
to whether the statement is true or false.
4. Read and Say
• Read aloud Henry’s words in the bubble to the class, emphasizing the /oo/ sound.
• Have pupils underline all the words with the double o. Ask them what sound is made when
•
•
•
the double o appears.
Ask pupils if they know other words with the /oo/ sound and write them on the board.
(cool, school, spoon, balloon) If pupils suggest words that make the /oo/ sound, but do
NOT contain the double o spelling pattern, write those words in a separate column or in a
different color, e.g. blue, glue, do. Tell pupils that there are different spelling patterns that
make similar sounds.
Refer pupils to Let’s Practice, Exercise 2 on page 52. You can do this exercise in class.
Call on pupils to write the rhyming words on the board. (a. big/fig, b. hot/pot, c. sad/glad
d. room/boom, e. moon/soon, f. sand/hand)
5. Talk Together
• Write on the board: Amir lives in the desert. Princess Meg lives on the moon. The Superkids
live on Earth.
