Have pupils read the next two lines silently. Then ask:

Have pupils read the rest of the story silently to find out what Aladdin wishes for. Have
pupils underline Aladdin’s wishes. (1. I want to go home, 2. We want a big meal.)

Ask pupils what Aladdin and his mother ate. Write the word meat on the board and
elicit its meaning in L1.
•
Play the entire story on CD Track 96. Invite individuals to read aloud different parts of
the story.
•
Go back and re-read the eight statements from the beginning of this activity and have
the pupils say whether each statement is true and correct the false statements.

Suddenly*, a genie comes out of the lamp and says, “You can
make three wishes, Aladdin. What is your first* wish?” Aladdin is
very happy. "I want to go home," he says. “That is my wish." Poof!
Suddenly, Aladdin is home. His mother is very happy. But, they are
very hungry.
Aladdin rubs the lamp again. The genie comes out of the lamp and
says, “What is your second* wish, Aladdin?”
"My mother and I are very hungry," says Aladdin. "We want a big

"Aladdin, you have one more wish," says the genie. "What is your
wish?" "Hmm," says Aladdin, "I don't know. Can you come back

laddin lives with his mother. They are poor. A rich and
bad man wants Aladdin to work for him. Aladdin wants
to work. He wants to get money for food. He wants to help
his mother. He is afraid of the bad man but he needs the money.
The man tells Aladdin to go into a cave and find an old lamp. Aladdin
finds the lamp. The bad man says, "Give me the lamp! There is a
genie in this lamp. The genie can make wishes come true. I want
to make a wish*. I want to take all of the money and gold from the
people in this village! I want to be rich, rich, rich!"
Aladdin doesn't want to give the lamp to the man. The bad man
is very angry. He does not let Aladdin out of the cave. Aladdin is
afraid. He holds the magic lamp in his hands. He rubs the lamp and
