2. Read, Match and Write
• Read aloud the six sentences. Have pupils look at the pictures.
• Have pupils complete the matching and writing activity independently and then sit with

• Point out the Language Focus box. Write the words the pirate has a sword on the

board. Explain that has is used with he, she and it. Practice have/has orally asking the
class questions such as: What does Dan have? Pupils: Dan has a book. What does
Ron have? Ron has a pencil… Explain that the negative form of has is doesn’t have.
Practice orally: invite two pupils to the front of the class and ask them to take a few
objects with them. Ask the class to say what each has and doesn’t have.
Draw a picture of a pirate on the board and have pupils suggest where to put his sword,
his gun, his hat, etc (or use the pictures on pages 202 and 204). Model the structure:
The pirate has a hat.
Ask if the pirate has a bandana. Model: He doesn’t have a bandana.
Have pupils sit in pairs and choose one of the pirates on the page and describe him
using the structure: My pirate has a green hat. He doesn’t have a bandana. The partner
has to say which pirate was chosen. Pupils switch roles.
Have pupils each draw a picture of a pirate and color it. Tell them they should draw four
things from the list in their drawing.
