3. Talk Together
Write the following words on the board: street, turn right, turn left, go straight. Explain
the words and remind the class that these are words we use when giving directions.
To get pupils familiar with the map, read out the names of the buildings. Ask pupils to
say what street they are on.
Tell pupils that you have chosen a building and will give directions of how to walk to
it starting at the green arrow. They follow your directions and say what building you
thought of (the library). (Go straight on Park Street. Turn left on Low Street. What do
you see?
Have two pupils come to the front of the class and model the activity.
Have pupils sit in pairs. One pupil thinks of a place on the map and gives his partner
instructions on how to get there. The second pupil draws the route on his map according
to the instructions and says where he got to. The first pupil tells him if he got to the right
place or not. Then they switch roles.

a. This is a prediction activity. Read each statement aloud and have pupils raise their
hands if they think that this might happen. Count the number of pupils who raise
their hands for each statement and write the number on the board. All responses
are legitimate.
