Write the words to build on the board and explain their meaning in L1. Write on the
board: People build buildings. Point out that these two words, build and building come
from the same word family, as do sail and sailor.
Have pupils scan the text and underline the words: sailor, sail, ship and build.
Ask pupils to predict how Captain Pete will get money to build Green Town. Play CD
Track 79
Ask pupils to predict why Captain Pete and his sailors put vegetables, fruit, coffee
and tea on the ship. Play the third paragraph on the CD Track 79 again and elicit that
Captain Pete and his sailors sold the food that they had on their ship, and now they
have a treasure box full of money, silver and gold to take back to build Green Town.
Have pupils scan the text and underline the words vegetables, fruit, coffee, tea and
treasure box.
Have pupils look at the top picture on page 195 and elicit that it is a pirate ship.
Put the word and picture card for pirate on the board. Write Pirates steal… on the
board. Ask pupils: What can the pirates steal from Captain Pete’s ship? (vegetables,
fruit, coffee, tea, a treasure box, money, silver, gold) Play the fourth paragraph on the
CD Track 79 of the fourth paragraph and elicit that the pirates want to steal the money,
gold and silver.
Have pupils predict how the sailors and Captain Pete will react. Ask: Will they fight the
pirates? Will the pirates get the treasure box? Play the fifth paragraph on the CD Track
79 and elicit that the sailors sailed away but that Captain Pete stayed on the ship. The
pirates took the treasure.
Ask pupils to predict what will happen to Captain Pete.
Play the whole story on the CD Track 79. Call on individual pupils to read aloud.

There was a pirate ship on the sea. The pirates saw Captain Pete's
ship. They sailed to the ship and got on it. They wanted to steal the
treasure box with the money, silver and gold.
The sailors were afraid. They jumped into little boats and sailed
away. But Captain Pete stayed on his ship. He wanted to bring the
treasure box back to Green Town, but the pirates took the treasure
box and sailed away.
Oh no! The pirates took the treasure box.
What will I do? Help! Please help me!
