Elicit from pupils what they think the next adventure will be about.
• Place the word and picture card of pirate on the board. Have pupils repeat after you: The
next adventure will be about pirates.
• Elicit from pupils that pirates travel on ships.
Place the picture and word card ship on the board and have pupils repeat after you: Pirates
travel on ships.
• Ask: How many ships do you see in the picture. (2)
• Ask pupils to identify the ship that belongs to the pirates: The one with the Jolly Roger pirate
flag.
• Put the word and picture card of flag on the board. Have pupils repeat the word flag after
you. Say: This is a pirate’s flag. We see a pirate’s ship with this flag.
• Say: Now look at the small boat. Place the picture and word card of boat on the board.
• Have the class look at the poster and discuss what they see in the picture. Draw pupils
attention to the labeled words: captain (Pete), ship, boat, sailor, pirate, treasure box,
vegetables, flag.
