1. Listen and Chant
•
•
•
Play CD Track 71.
Have pupils read the chant and underline the two questions. Explain to pupils that
when you lose something and want to find it, it is a good idea to retrace your steps.
Read the chant with pupils.
2. Think, Listen and Order
Elicit information about each of the pictures, asking what the animals are doing. Write
the animals and their actions on the board underlining the verb +ing:
the giraffe - is standing and sleeping
the monkeys - are throwing bananas
the hippo - is playing in the water
the zebra - is running
• Explain that be (am, is, are)+ing form of the verb (Present Progressive) indicates that
the action is taking place NOW. E.g. The giraffe is standing up and is sleeping. (NOW,
as you are looking at the picture etc.)
• For each picture ask pupils whether or not this is something that one might see on a
safari. All are acceptable possibilities.
a. In pairs, have pupils predict which things Sara actually sees on the safari.
• Have pupils write the names of the following animals in their notebooks: hippo, giraffe,
monkeys, zebra . Play CD Track 72, instructing pupils to mark the animals mentioned.
• Play the track again. Have pupils listen and look at the pictures as Sara tells her story.
Ask: What pictures in Exercise 2 are mentioned? What is the order? (1.d, 2. c, 3. a,
4. b)
